        Introduction and key takeaways

The total car stock (M1) increased by 13% over the period, reaching almost 50 million vehicles by 2024. Before the pandemic, the annual growth rate of M1 was around 1.5%; after the pandemic, it fell to below 1%, remaining in the range of 0.5 to 0.7% in recent years. Gasoline and diesel vehicles dominate the fleet. Over the period, the share of diesel (ICEV-D) cars remained between 30% and 29%. The lowest share is in 2024, which may indicate a slight shift away of diesel vehicles. Meanwhile, the share of petrol vehicles (ICEV-G) decreases slowly but steadily over time, from 69% to 65%. The share of electric vehicles (BEV and PHEV) is growing gradually, but they still represent a relatively small proportion of the total stock: 3.3% of the current M1 stock are BEV vehicles, and 2% PHEV.

The total truck (N2 and N3) stock grows slowly over the period, increasing by about 5% overall. The annual growth rate of the stock declines in only three years (2014, 2020, and 2024). Diesel trucks overwhelmingly dominate the fleet, accounting for 98% of the total stock in 2024. Full electric vehicles contribute only marginally and, for the first time in 2024, barely exceed a 1% share of the fleet, the rest being CNG and LNG trucks.
